Enhance blurry photos with AI: identify the problem first
The result depends on how much information remains in the source. AI may make some edges easier to see, but it cannot guarantee recovery of real detail. Severe defocus, long motion trails and unreadable text need particular care.
Upload an image to upscaleStep 1: separate blur from insufficient dimensions
Check the original pixel dimensions and view it at 100%. If it looks soft only when stretched to fill a screen, it may simply be too small. If edges are already diffuse at native size, look for missed focus, motion or compression damage. More than one problem can be present.
Step 2: find the version with the most information
Prefer camera or phone originals over screenshots, chat thumbnails and repeatedly saved JPGs. Re-export documents, charts and designs from their source files when possible. AI is not a reliable source for exact text or numbers.
Step 3: choose one intended use
For screens, check the display dimensions. For print, compare pixels with the required PPI. You can try 2K first, but it is still a paid processing attempt and does not predict a separate 4K result. 4K is experimental and does not guarantee blur removal.
Step 4: look for new errors as well as improvements
Compare the overall appearance at the same display size, then inspect each file at 100% for text, eyes, building edges and repeating textures. If characters change, edges double or textures look implausible, find a better source instead of upscaling the generated result again.
Use original records when accuracy matters
Verify blurred text on orders, receipts, identity documents and other evidence against original files or reliable records. Clearly generated characters can still be wrong; legibility does not establish authenticity.
| What you see | What to try first | What to check afterward |
|---|---|---|
| Missed focus: generally soft outlines | Find a better-focused frame | Changed facial features and small edges |
| Motion: trails or doubled outlines | Find another frame or retake the photo | Remaining ghosts and redrawn outlines |
| Compression: blocks or color noise around edges | Find an uncompressed original or re-export | Accurate text, block boundaries and textures |
This is a troubleshooting guide, not a measured restoration success rate.
Frequently asked questions
Can every blurry photo be restored?
No. Adding pixels cannot guarantee recovery of missing information. AI may produce plausible details that are not true to the scene.
Is 4K always clearer than 2K?
No. 4K requests larger dimensions, but the actual dimensions and detail depend on the provider’s returned image. Choose for your intended use and inspect the output.
Does an unsuccessful attempt use credits?
Failed processing does not spend credits. Successful generation uses 8 credits for 2K or 18 for 4K. A successful generation does not mean every detail meets your expectations.
