Upscale portrait photos while checking for natural detail

Start with the intended use, then check whether the result still looks like the person. AI can generate new pixels and texture, but it may also change eyes, skin or hairlines. A sharper-looking face is not necessarily a more faithful one.

Upload an image to upscale

Find the original first

Look in your camera files, phone library or photographer’s delivery folder. Forwarded photos and downloaded avatars may already be compressed or cropped. Keep an untouched source and inspect eyes and hair at 100%. Avoid repeated sharpening or screenshots of blurry previews.

Profile pictures and prints need different checks

For a profile picture, check the platform requirements and final crop before choosing dimensions. For print, calculate both sides at your target PPI rather than relying on a “4K” label. Our 2K and 4K tiers are requested size bounds, not twofold or fourfold scaling. 4K is experimental.

Inspect the person, not just sharpness

Compare source and result side by side at 100%. Check gaze direction, glasses, teeth, earrings and the hairline. Repeating skin texture, a waxy appearance or shifted moles and wrinkles can make the result unsuitable as an accurate record. Also check the outline at the actual profile-picture size.

Choose crop order for your composition

If you need to remove a large empty background, establish the composition in an external editor first. Keep the full source if you need several layouts. Upscaling before cropping does not guarantee sharper detail. This tool does not crop avatars automatically; check the pixels remaining in your final crop.

Know when to stop

If the face is tiny, eyes are unreadable or motion trails are severe, look for a better original or take another photo. Avoid repeatedly upscaling generated results. Follow the requirements for identity documents, verification and accurate records instead of relying on guessed facial detail.

Profile pictures: avoid repeatedly enlarging a tiny avatar

An avatar downloaded from a social platform may have been resized, cropped and compressed again. For LinkedIn or other profiles, find the phone or photographer’s original and review the platform’s current crop preview. A natural, recognizable face at small size matters more than sharper texture at 100%. The tool does not guarantee compliance with a platform’s identity or profile-photo requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Will facial features stay unchanged?

There is no guarantee. AI can alter facial details. Compare with the original and obtain any permission needed to use the person’s photo.

How many credits does a portrait cost?

2K uses 8 credits per image; 4K uses 18. Failed processing does not spend credits. A successfully generated image that does not match your taste is not the same as a processing failure.

Can I upload an HEIC selfie?

Convert it to a static JPG, PNG or WebP first. Uploads must be no larger than 10 MB, with an aspect ratio from 1:3 to 3:1. Process one image at a time.
