How to check an upscaled image before using it
Review dimensions, eyes, text, edges and texture against the source, then check the intended screen or print use.
Start with file properties
Record the downloaded file’s actual dimensions, format and size. 2K and 4K are request tiers and the returned dimensions may differ. Save source and output separately and inspect the actual file rather than only the browser thumbnail.
Compare at consistent display sizes
First compare the overall appearance at the same display size, then inspect each file at 100%. At native zoom, subjects in a large and small file have different screen sizes, so extra apparent texture alone does not demonstrate an improvement.
Review eyes, lettering, edges and texture
Compare gaze and facial features, verify every important character and number, look for halos or doubled outlines, and inspect fur, brickwork and fabric for repetition. Check transparent images against light and dark backgrounds. Important product information must match the real item.
Review at the destination
Check avatars at small size, inspect webpage loading and platform compression, and test-print a section at the intended physical scale. If problems remain, find a better source or reconsider the use before generating again. Avoid repeatedly processing the same compressed output.
| Situation | Suggested action | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions and crop | Compare with the target width and height | Meeting dimensions does not prove accuracy |
| Text and people | Compare with the source and reliable records | Reject a result with a critical error |
| Textures and outlines | Inspect at 100%, then at display size | Repetition, halos and waxy detail |
This is a manual review workflow, not an automated score or quality certification offered by the tool.
