What AI upscaling cannot do: when to replace the source
Recognize severe motion blur, compression damage, missing faces and unreadable text before treating generated details as real.
More pixels are not recovered evidence
Basic resizing interpolates pixels. AI enhancement can generate texture, but cannot guarantee that it matches the original scene. Accuracy matters more than apparent sharpness for identities, lettering, product labels and historical photos.
Severe motion blur and compression
Overlapping trails or large compression blocks can combine several real details into one. AI may draw a clean but incorrect edge. Look for another burst frame, an original export or a less-compressed version first.
Missing faces and unreadable text
A missing face provides no reliable basis for identity, and a block of color does not establish the original lettering. Do not use enhanced identity documents, receipts or product labels as the sole source for verification.
When to retake or re-export
If you still have the subject, improve lighting, stabilize the camera and refocus. Re-export designs, documents and vector files from their sources. When recapture is impossible and changes are acceptable, try AI with clear expectations and inspect the result carefully.
| Situation | Suggested action | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Long motion trails | Use another frame or retake | A clean outline may still be wrong |
| Heavy compression | Find a less-compressed original | New texture is not original texture |
| Missing face or unreadable text | Consult original files or reliable records | Do not infer identity or facts |
Successful generation means the job completed, not that every detail is correct. An unwanted successful result is distinct from a processing failure.
