Amazon, Etsy & Shopify image sizes: required vs. recommended
Check official image dimensions and authenticity rules before upscaling, cropping or re-exporting. Sources checked November 2, 2026.
Identify the platform, marketplace and image role
Main product images, detail photos, shop banners and ads have different specifications. This guide summarizes official product-image documentation only. Categories, marketplaces and templates may add requirements. Recheck the linked source for your exact use before publishing.
Amazon: dimensions are only the first check
Amazon’s product-photography guide lists a 500–10,000-pixel longest edge and prefers both sides above 1,000 pixels for zoom. Main images generally need a white background; check category rules too. Correct dimensions do not guarantee approval.
Etsy: recommended size and authentic product photos
Etsy recommends listing images at least 2000 pixels in both dimensions, with a landscape or square first image. Its authenticity guidance requires an unedited photo of the actual item, with exceptions for some item types. An AI-enhanced image does not automatically replace that photo and must not conceal defects.
Shopify: recommendations and upload limits
Shopify’s product-media documentation allows up to 5000 × 5000 pixels or 25 MP and files below 20 MB. It recommends 2048 × 2048 for square product images. Themes affect display, and featured images should use consistent ratios. An upload limit is not a target for every image.
Translate requirements into a workflow
Compare both dimensions of your file with the target. Our square 2K request is 1440 × 1440 and 4K is 2160 × 2160. The former falls short of a 2000-pixel square target; the latter still requires checking the returned file. Our uploads accept static JPG, PNG and WebP up to 10 MB. A platform accepting other formats does not mean this tool accepts them.
